Privacy Policy for Guide to the Flinders Ranges

Last updated: March 9, 2026

Introduction

Friends of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Guide to the Flinders Ranges mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our App.

Our Commitment: We are committed to protecting your privacy. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information about our users.

Information Collection and Use

Location Data

The App requests access to your device's location for the following purposes:

• Calculate your distance to tour points of interest
• Display your position on maps for navigation
• Trigger audio descriptions when you are near specific locations

Important: Your location data is:

• Processed entirely on your device
• Never transmitted to our servers or any third party
• Never stored beyond temporary memory while the App is running
• Never used for tracking or analytics
• Deleted immediately when you close the App

Tour Content Downloads

The App downloads tour content (images, audio files, and descriptions) from our servers when you first use the App or when new content is available. These downloads:

• Do not require or include any personal information
• Are standard web requests that only reveal your IP address (as with any internet connection)
• Do not track which specific tours you view or download

Third-Party Services

OpenStreetMap

The App uses OpenStreetMap to display maps. When you view maps, your device downloads map tiles directly from OpenStreetMap servers. This interaction:

• Is a standard web request similar to loading any image from the internet
• Only reveals your IP address (standard for any internet connection)
• Does not send your precise location or any personal information
• Is governed by OpenStreetMap's privacy policy: https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy

OpenStreetMap is a privacy-focused, open-source mapping service that does not track users.

Data Storage

The App stores the following data locally on your device only:

• Downloaded tour content (images, audio, descriptions)
• App preferences and settings

This locally stored data:

• Remains on your device
• Is never transmitted elsewhere
• Can be deleted by uninstalling the App

Permissions

The App requests the following Android permissions:

• Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION): Required to show your position relative to tour points and on maps. This permission is essential for the App's core functionality.
• Internet (INTERNET): Required to download tour content and map tiles.

Children's Privacy

The App is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights:

• Location Permission: You can revoke location permission at any time through your device settings. The App will continue to work but will not show distance calculations or your position on maps.
• Data Deletion: You can delete all App data by uninstalling the App from your device.

Data Security

Since we do not collect or transmit personal data, there is no personal data at risk. All tour content and location processing occurs locally on your secure device.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
• Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
• Providing notice through the App if changes are significant

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.

International Users

The App is designed for use in Australia, specifically for tours in the Flinders Ranges. Our content servers are located in Australia. Since no personal data is collected or transmitted, there are no international data transfer concerns.
